Operating Safely
Follow the load chart carefully and never exceed rated capacity. Make smooth, controlled movements. Maintain clear communication with ground personnel. Be aware of overhead hazards including power lines, tree branches, and building structures.
Common Safety Hazards
Power line contact is one of the most serious hazards in boom truck operation. Maintain a minimum clearance of 10 feet for lines under 50kV. Unstable ground conditions can cause tipping. High winds can make loads difficult to control.
Operator Certification
In the United States, boom truck operators should be certified through NCCCO or equivalent programs. Certification ensures operators understand load charts, safety procedures, and proper operating techniques.
